Generally curious how many companies offer phone reimbursement? My last gig did not but the current one does. Recovering alcoholic here 🖐 day 1. What are your strategies for doing something productive to combat stress instead of grabbing a drink?

Ex wife gets married tomorrow. Didn’t think it was bothering me but I dropped my kids off at her house for the rehearsal and I’m struggling to keep distracted. I know having a drink only destroys the trust I’ve rebuilt, but I don’t want to feel like this.

I’ve got about 8.5 years and still struggle with dealing with friends who get drunk and are complete assholes. I know I should have empathy but I just want to kick their ass. What I should do is Thank God (agnostic) I am sober today. If I was drinking I would have kicked his ass, faced the consequences, made amends, and lost friend(s).

Not addicted but want to be sober, what do you guys do on weekends? All my friends go out and drink, how do you avoid loneliness? How'd you find new friends and how long did it take if you did?

How does your significant other handle your relapse? I’m 5 years sober overall but relapsed / slipped recently and my spouse isn’t speaking with me. I know alcoholism is hard on loved ones but I’ll do your spouse cut you off? How to deal with it?

My boyfriend of a year got a DUI this weekend and has had drinking problems in the past. He fully admits he is an alcoholic, and will do therapy/go to AA moving forward. My therapist suggested I be a “computer program running in the background” and essentially leave him to allow him to work on himself. This is obviously a really hard decision, and I feel like I should listen to my therapist, but my heart is pulling me the other way. Anyone else been through something similar or have advice?

Do we have any other runners in this group? I have found that it can be hard, painful, grueling, challenging, and incredibly humbling. Challenging myself to run, when I just want to escape by doing nothing is always the better option. My stressful day/ situation melts away and even if I feel like crap due to the heat, fatigue, or non-stop hills it’s better than a hangover 100% of the time.

Three mondays ago I woke up so hung over dreading the workday ahead. On calls I could barely form sentences. At lunch I lay down for an hour but couldn't sleep. That night I decided not to drink, not typical, usually nothing stops me. The next two nights I didn't drink. Couldn't sleep those nights at all (despite advil pm and melatonin), usually fell asleep at 5am for the last 2 hous before wake up. Has anyone tried using Kratom to help with an addiction to opiates? Does Kratom itself get addictive if you start using it for a while?

I’ve been sober for a few months and there are a few cocktail parties coming up at work. It’s “encouraged” to attend. Any advice? I have been to a couple backyard parties over the summer where I was around alcohol but I was mostly among friends. This is going to be different. Anyone else ever have a situation like this? Someone in my firms bowl just wrote about needing to pass a drug test. Out of 40 replies mine was the only one to say, ‘Get the help you need’ ... we use substances (pick your poison) to mask feelings and emotions. They all recommended ways to treat the symptom (request different engagement, stall it out, fake urine, etc). I hope theirs good people out there where I work, otherwise I may be looking to jump ship to protect my sobriety. Sobriety is no. 1 above all else. Grateful for 65 days sober

Stopped drinking a year ago after a particularly rough period. Lately I’ve been having thoughts and considerations around starting again. I think my friend circle has changed a lot so I wouldn’t fall into that crazy party lifestyle. Has anyone stopped then started again successfully? I never drunk THAT much but it was impacting my life (sending stupid messages I shouldn’t have been sending) and getting blackout occasionally. I do think it was having a negative impact on my life
