Career Sabbatical?

Can anyone who has taken a career sabbatical to travel/explore other interests share their experience with both leaving their jobs and returning to the legal field?
I really want to live in Asia for a year at least before I have to settle down and start a family. I’m not getting younger but don’t want to be reckless with my career.

Any other postdocs dealing with the crippling anxiety of disappointing all your mentors/supporters in science by leaving academia? I know it’s my life but….

I’m sure others have considered this, I really feel burned out on my specific subspecialty. For the most part I do interventional pain management. I am midway through my career, but I cannot in anyway see doing this for the future, it just doesn’t feel like I’m making a difference. Do you think it's a good idea to devide work experience by projets? Or is it better to have "projects highlights" separate from work experience.. something like: intro>functional expertise> project highlights>work experience>education?
