I’m currently a top performing senior Field Sales Executive selling new business subscription and SaaS into the corporate tech vertical. I live in the DMV area. Hit me up if you’d be willing to help with a referral at Salesforce. Thanks!!

Ex-here. YMMV, but it's *a lot* to learn if you haven't come from that world or haven't worked for that firm before as outside counsel. So many things you likely didn't consider were issues are big issues. The orgs are massive with so many layers and personalities. You'll spend your first couple of years figuring out the terms, players, etc.
Each firm's OGC is different, but you should expect a pretty good variety of work. It can be hard to keep things straight with all the different service lines, different playbooks, different stakeholders, and turn around times. The hours, for me, were pretty reasonable unless you're in or near busy season.
I was generally happy with my comp but left for an org where I could get some equity and a bigger bonus. My colleagues were mostly great, too. Pay was about the same as mid-level associates but with an expectation that you take time off and not be an asshole when others do.
How many hours per week do you usually work?
And pay range?
I would imagine it’s the same client-facing craziness and long hours except for less pay
Counsel 1’s description is pretty spot on. Pay is pretty good I think (mid300s for me) but lots of rules and restrictions on investing and outside work that can be aggravating. WLB is good for me since I make it a priority. Lots of personalities and bureaucracy.
I’m mid-300s at Big 4 with 15 YOE
Workload is higher than other in house roles
Why is that?
Ey has a couple roles open now
Major bureaucracy and investments can be a PITA (had to change car insurance and get waivers to keep mortgages and bank accounts previously opened with audit clients) but reasonable hours and minimal interaction with others in the office.
What is the promotion process like from counsel to Assistant General Counsel
