Anyone interviewing in KPMG's McLean office tonight?

Hey fellow designers,

Is anyone else facing the brunt of working in a service based company and trying to move to a startup product company being dragged down by the 90 days notice period.

I have had a couple of interviews with good startup product companies where the main issue is my 90 days of notice period. Most startups simply run away at the mention of 90 days NP.

Even established product companies shy away at this. Has anyone recently switched despite this long a notice period?

Has anybody recently hired a professional resume writer? Was it helpful and in what ways. It would be great if you can share. thanks.

LinkedIn always tells me to message the recruiter when I apply for a job. Is this ok/normal to do?

Interviewing with a startup and they’d like me to do a presentation on some of the financial processes I am working/ worked on. What is the best way to present this info that I usually do in excel? Would a PowerPoint deck be the best approach with the info or a google Sheet?

on the way to an interview this morning eating a sandwich. I walked past a homeless man who had a stray cat perched on his lap. He asked for a bite of sandwich to feed them both as they hadn’t eaten in days. I gave the whole sandwich over and headed off to the interview. As I got to the interview room there was a large executive chair facing away from me. The chair turned and on top was a mirror. When looking in the mirror I could see the cat. I am the cat. Accepting an offer in IBD, lateraling over from consulting. Opportunity of a lifetime for me so don’t want to lose it.
But timing is horrible. I joined the Army Reserves before this opportunity was on my radar. Interviewed over several months, got the offer, but shipping out in 1 month for training for 6 months.
Do I irreversibly shoot my career by joining and immediately going on LoA? I obviously haven’t mentioned it in the interview process. Or will this be forgotten a couple years in?

I applied for a role a few days ago and found the relevant hiring manager today via LinkedIn. Should I send a follow up mail/introduce myself to this person. Would it leave a good impression or come across as desperate?

Btw, the person is in a “Talent Acquisition” position at the company.

Three days later recruiter wants to give me a call and “give an update”. Schedules it after 2 days. This morning cancels last minute as they are having “internal discussions”. I work in Nj at a pharmaceutical company and have been there for the past 4 years supporting a VP and currently at 77k a year and it’s not enough. Going to start interviewing elsewhere and want to get an idea of what starting salaries you all are at and what I should ask for. Any advice ?

In the process of interviewing for a strategy/Corp dev position at an activewear/athleisure company and they want me to think of a couple tangential industries that may have companies for acquisition and do a write up. I’m stumped on what else an activewear company would buy besides other activewear companies. I can only think of home fitness (Lulu’s Mirror) or vitamins/supplements. Any thoughts?

I’m a designer in the planning/landscape architecture dept. of a CE firm. Extremely frustrated that after 4+ years and multiple asks, I’m not getting the in-field construction experience I’ve asked for. I know that my designs could be better if I could see how things are actually built but I get slapped in the face with “I need you in the office designing/drafting” or “there’s no budget to have you go out” and then sends an intern to inspect instead. I’m 5 yrs out of college. Any advice?
