Anyone WFH at their parents’ home and considering moving out? It’s not an ~ideal~ time but also need to maintain sanity. Would love to hear any/all tips on either fleeing the nest or regaining sanity at home.

I worked from my parents’ home for 4 months before I had to finally go back to my own apartment. I was grateful to have the family time and spend time with the dog. However, I’m renting a studio in a high rise and continued to pay my rent while I was gone. I’ve been back on and off for about 2 or 3 weeks now. It really helps to have my own space and routine. However, I’m still stopping by my parents’ on the weekends, mostly for the dog. Lol. It’s also easier to grocery shop and do my laundry outside the city. But being at my parents’ put negative pressure on my relationship and having some space for us is helping. It’s also relieving to be back in my apartment to clean everything up.

Our 2020 goal was to see each other more this year, but social distancing messed that up. We’ve seen each other about once a month. It feels like we’re long distance, even though we live driving distance from each other. The dog hates leaving me at my studio each week. He loved having me there. The dog consistently won EOM these past few months of home office. Lol.

Moved out. I think it really helped that I found an apartment with 2 mo free offered

Looked at Zillow and worked with an agent but ultimately found this place through word of mouth. It’s run by a larger corporation so they were able to offer the promotion. Some of the individually owned properties or smaller owners might be more flexible with price/incentives.

Wait a month or so, you’re about to see a lot of vacancies as people who haven’t been able to get back to work default on their rent

Move out; you are fully grown - you should have fled the basement years ago ...

Hmmmm - stepped on dog barks loudest ... I see there is plenty of snark to go around!! They say the sense of humor is the first to go - hope that isn’t true 🤣🤣

I’m white, married for a decade. The difference between me and my spouse on current events might be the demise of our marriage. Spouse agrees that George Floyd’s death was murder, but is fighting me about financially supporting marginalized people to bring change. I’m really trying to hear my partner’s point of view and keep an open mind, but they actually think black people simply commit more crime and want to live off government subsidy. Unwilling to acknowledge racism’s role here.

Im a third year and my current firm isn't bad and I'm pretty comfortable here. Im satisfied most of the time. There is one firm I've been keeping my eyes on because of its similarities to where I currently am (nice people, similar hours, culture).

Im a bit burned out now and I would love to take a long break. I'm hoping I can take a break (2 months) between the transition but is this a good reason to move though? Would you move in my situation? Im sure there will be a signing bonus.

Now being at home, I have to adult by finding and making food myself - this sucks! 🤣😫

Do you pay your credit cards in full every month?

I ask because I’ve let my credit spending get a bit lax since moving and adopting a puppy recently, so I haven’t been paying them off in full every month like I used to (though still well above the minimum payment, and keeping utilization at 30% or under). It got me thinking about how many people adhere to this advice.

Change my mind: the talk around things shifting to a 'new normal' is overblown. Society's collective conscience is too short-term to enact massive changes to things we are comfortable (e.g., global warming). Yes, it will take awhile for offices to open back up, flights to be full, etc., but within 1-2 years things willbe mostly back to what they are like now and this massive structural shift will have never materialized.
