Anyone who's gone into legal recruiting willing to share their experience and opinions about it? Considering the move after practicing for 12 years (PI plaintiff side, small firm). Thanks in advance.

Have some money set aside. It can be lucrative, but I think it takes awhile to get off the ground. I’ve heard stories of people taking 6 months to a year to make first placement. But I think it then starts to pick up.

Natasha Alladina shared about this some on her episode of my podcast (The Former Lawyer Podcast), so you might find that helpful. Since it’s commission-based, recruiting can be quite volatile, so you’ll want to assess your tolerance for volatility. Also, your experience will be super dependent on what company you’re with, so you want to ask a lot of questions about the structure and details because it can vary a lot.

Ha thanks! I need to add that to the description of the podcast—“no cutesy banter”. 😅

Would love to hear from experienced hires who have insight into both types of exits (MBB vs other) to better comp and wlb (tech is ideal but any industry works).

I know type of case work factors heavily into opportunities but how much does the MBB name really open? Is that name recognition worth leveling down to grind for another few years?

I have been overworked and overwhelmed at my current job for quite a while. This is my first position out of law school, small firm with large caseload, and in my second year of practice. I often think I should look for another opportunity elsewhere but I don't know that any other firms would give me the potential for growth and experience that I am getting here. What are other 2nd year associates doing at other firms? Trying to gauge if I really am getting more opportunities here
