I recently interviewed with MITRE for a systems engineering role to make the move from Leidos where I feel underpaid for the work I do and for my experience ($85K). I have 4 YOE, a STEM degree, and soon will have a Masters Degree. I’m looking to make around $120K in the new role at Mitre. Does anyone have any insight into comp there? This would be in the DC metro area. Does $120K seem reasonable or am I dreaming?

For PwC fishes who left recently, how did you consolidate wealth builder into 401k within benefits express to avoid the 20% federal tax withholding that was described in the benefits package? I tried to do this online but it didn’t show as an option except to rollover to an existing IRA or take a final distribution. Do I need to call benefits express?

I work with plenty of people who don't drink and they still attend all those types of events. They order a water/soda/tea/etc. and hang out just the same as everyone else. Sounds like you're looking for an excuse
I'm Mormon and I don't drink, but i still go to the events and just get a Coke or a water. They said, if someone chose not to attend at all for religious reasons, I wouldn't consider that a bad thing. I would respect it actually, and would consider it a nice showing of dedication.
Happy hours? Fuckin' sad hours more like it. You advance because you make your boss look good. Booze has nothing to do with it.
I don't drink, because of non-religious reasons and I attend these functions!
@OP have you tried requesting a budget from HR for networking events? Since you can't attend these happy hours because of your religious doctrine, I think it's a fair request for them to grant you a small budget so that you may attend other networking events. There are all types of accounting related networking events that occur. Check with your state CPA society, as they often have events. This will take some effort on your part, but it's more than a fair request.
There will always be alcohol at events. Yes you are at a disadvantage. You will miss out on networking opportunities. But that is a sacrifice you've chosen to accept.
Love what EY7 said. I know a high rated Manager who never went to happy hours because he does not drink. Your success depends on your work quality and ethics. At least until SM u should be good without going to happy hours and I don't usually see many partners at happy hours.
Going out to bars with coworkers allowed me to form bonds with some of them to the point that were still friends and meet up regularly despite not working together anymore. If I hadn't gone to happy hours with them I don't think we'd have become close friends like we are now. That is the main disadvantage I see to your situation
You may want to reconsider your understanding of "triggered"... I'm not the one feeling victimized by standard practices within the profession I chose. 😂😂😂
Asking to attend a separate networking event does not bother me but if he gets a perdiem for not going to the HH I want one too
I hate happy hours
Lol k
^ @EY1 👏👏👏
I don't care if he feels left out. We don't have to cater to every individual Move on
I'm Muslim, don't drink but occasionally go to happy hours just for the sake of appearances and "networking." I don't have an issue with alcohol at events because I'm not tempted. Besides, I know I do quality work and get along with my teams so I don't feel as though I'm at a disadvantage. I enjoy the company of my co-workers but I honestly don't care to spend anymore time with them than I have to. I would much rather go home to my family and do things I enjoy. And for the most part, I do just that and I'm still well liked by the sr managers and partners. People don't really care as long as you serve their purpose well.
Depends on your level of dedication to your faith. For instance, I am not allowed to even be around alcohol or gatherings where people are drinking. No need to have attitude guys lol
Most religions, including the Aberhamics faith, have the same rulings in regards to alcohol. It just depends how close the person is to their religion. And it's not like I can't be around someone at a restaurant drinking but when everyone is getting drunk at a happy hour/Christmas party, then I try to stay away from those environments. Also, as a recovering alcoholic, I try to stay away from any temptation that would make me go against my faith
^The firm is not spending money on them for the happy hour. Think of happy hour as having a per person budget. They're not attending so the firm isn't paying for their alcohol/food to attend the event. That money can be used for them to attend a separate networking event. How is that unfair?
Step up and plan the next gathering.
Socializing and developing relationships are core to our business. You might not comprehend the limitations you are putting on yourself but they are real. I am not smart or silly enough to tackle the religious issue, but know that social events where alcohol is served is a cornerstone of our business. I drink sparkling water about a third of the time but I always go.
Fit in or fit out. Rash'em!
Lots of people don't like sloppy happy hours. Suggest planning an event that focuses on health. Then it won't be alcohol focused and a lot of people will love it.
