I have 11+ years of total experience out of which 6 years in web application support , 2 years build and release engineer, current 2+ years in environment management and devops.
My current CTC is 17 LPA which i know is not as per market standards but need to know how much should be the market rate as per this experience.
Please share the valid market range so that i should know what value i hold.

No NYC does not permit recruiters to ask for your current salary. They can only ask about your target salary for the new job

I thought it’s a fed law now - can’t do it anywhere, Deloitte stopped a few years ago.
You can just flat out say it’s an illegal question. I’ve done and never had it become an issue. Or if you’re really nervous you can play coy and say “I’m sorry? Oh I believe what you are asking is what salary range I am interested in, as I’m sure you’re well aware that is considered an illegal question in NY” or “now now if you’re testing me to see if I can spot an illegal question then I can assure you I’m well aware. I believe what you’re truly asking is what my salary range is” that just makes it more light and gentle. Most of the recruiters I’ve worked with in the past are human who can let down their corporate facade so making it a light hearted can be helpful. Just my two cents Personally I’ve just flat out said “it’s actually illegal to ask that in NY what I can give you is my salary range which can be subject to change based on responsibilities communicated during the interview etc”
