Recently started in house legal at a credit fund and a lot of the business terms are lost on me (credit spreads, LTV, weighted avg yields, etc). Any advice on how to brush up, books to read, videos to watch? Id like to understand what our deal team is talking about and feel very out of my element...
Beg, get no work, then study
Pass the CPA exam as soon as possible, then beg to stay busy.
Sit quietly and study. Work will always find you.
Staff here, I usually asked 2-3 people on my team if they needed anything, if they said no I would just spend the rest of the time and most likely the following day studying. If they need help with something they’ll usually reach out on their own. Like others have said both you and the firm benefit if you pass the CPA early on.
pass the cpa, put in marginal work, and then leave the firm
Pass that cpa
Getting the CPA passed early on is the way to go. I would say at least put the feelers out. After you ask around, if you have no work, go ahead and study.
Ask around to cover yourself, then study!!
Study.
Thanks all. I was concerned about getting low scores in the rating system they discussed during the internship
I'd say if you're an intern, you definitely want that work. As a fully hired staff it's easier to get away with studying all day
Beg get no work then study 🙂
