I can relate to being raised by a single mom, we've been homeless as well. I don't for being laid off, but I fear not being successful enough to completely retire her.

Sorry you had to go through that. Being laid off was my biggest fear. And then I got fired quite brutally despite being one of their best employees. I know that because several of my clients fired the agency I was working with and wanted to work with me instead. What I learned was do good work and train your mind to believe that opportunities are abundant (as woo woo as that sounds, it’s worked for me). You might get laid off today but guess what, there will always be another job, maybe it’s not as ideal or maybe it’s better than you imagined, still you will be fine.
Layoffs WILL happen. That’s not a fear, it’s a reality you should financially plan for. 2008 was a nightmare and could happen again, especially in this economy. And if not now, one day we’ll all be aged out…
Some suggestions: live below your means. Save 6-12 months of expenses and keep it in cash. Learn to make tasty cocktails at home. Consider former colleagues and what a side gig as a freelance strategist might look like (great tax breaks for the self employed!).
It all works out. I hope you find a way to not be anxious about inevitable work challenges.
I don't think its abnormal. I am sure it is a real concern. I would just not to stress about it. It really doesn't happen as often as you think.
I think it's a completely normal fear to have. It might just weigh a bit more heavily on your mind based on your own life experiences but that's how these things work.
I think its a reasonable and normal fear to have, but I'd suggest you try not to let anxiety and worry create problems that do not exist.
It’s totally normal. The best way to combat the anxiety is to have enough in savings to get you through a stint of unemployment. Try to safe something from each paycheck.
