Is HARMAN really recruiting for permanent remote roles? Would they ask us to come to office after sometime? I am a bachelor woman supporting my sickly parents and can't move them out of city. And my city don't have harman office. HR did mention permanent remote, still want to confirm as I've heard many cases people were called back across different product based companies. No I love working from home. We have daily PR calls and weekly sprint meetings. Sometimes we chat about other things beside work. The times I feel like I’m missing interaction are far outweighed by the convenience of working from home. I will never go back to office.
Ours is not. They are a permanent remote company for our tech people. They don’t have the office space anymore and our teams are now scattered all over the USA- it would be impossible unless they do major restructuring. Makes no business sense.
I also have a great time working remotely. Personally, I rent and office space but that's besides the point. I'm in colorado while the rest of my team is mostly on the east coast, so I come in at 7 and stay til 3. Virtually everybody keeps the 9 to 5 on my team so we all line up. I like the "work your own hours" idea, but it doesn't really work. Everybody should try and at least have very significant overlap in time else you can work on problems together. And I don't think working from home has anything to do with your coworkers' personalities. My colleagues all have meetings like 3 times a week and many of us are on discord consistently talking to each other. Without something like discord to just be able to hop in, ask questions, and chat, it would be much worse I think.
We are a 9-5 eastern time office also- that does help. My brother work’s asynchronously at another company and he barely has any interaction with coworkers aside from his tester but he has been there 15 years is the end to end programmer of his product and it’s a smaller company everyone worked for years together in office already.
I cant say i have had that problem. When i worked at cvs, there were ALOT of ppl i had to talk to and i rarely had communication problems. There was ONE guy who was ahole lol. He purposely never responded until i got his manager involved. Same as at my current company, except currently there are no a-holes. I am able to communicate clearly all the time
I love working from home. It’s have worked from home 100% for the past 17 years. I would never return to office. No commute, lower expenses , better work/life balance and higher productivity. I was never social and hated offices with the office politics. I hate cube farms. I also love not spending 4 hours a day commuting.
My co workers are a lot like me and we are not social. We have slack and many of us are friends away from work. It it what you make of it.
I like being able to leave work and I’m done until I come back the next work day. I also work a nine standard work week and hours.
For sure. I've found myself swiping more during WFH
Haven't got a chance to work from home yet
I love working from home! Pretty much the only down point to it is being 2 hours ahead of the rest of the team. They often do not consider this when they reach out to me at 5 minutes till 3:00 their time and I'm on a call with them until after 5:30 my time. There have been very few times I have needed assistance before they start their shift... Recently, I have started to take the first 2 hours of the day and use it for urgent work if there is any, otherwise I often use it for self-education/pet projects.
I honestly felt like I was talking to a chat bot even when I was going to the office:
*me getting coffee from the office machine*
*random colleague comes to wait in line behind me*
Me: “Hi, how are you?”
Random colleague: “Not too bad, how are you?”
Me: “I’m good! Did you have a nice weekend?”
RC: “Yeah it was alright, I just had a chilled one”
Me: “Oh nice! It’s cold today isn’t it?”
RC: “Yeah it’s freezing!”
*coffee is ready*
Me: “alright then, see you around!”
And, scene.
