Associate in ID and the partner I work for suddenly started cutting a lot of my time in the last 3 months. 25-40 hrs a month lot. This came after said partner got in trouble with HR for overly micromanaging multiple associates, including me, on issues related to being present in the office, email response time, and other things unrelated to billable work. Now, I’m suspicious the partner is trying to get me in trouble using a diff method by cutting significant amounts of my time. Any advice?

Get out of ID. It is a hub for the sketchiest attorneys because it’s such a low quality/low pay area of law.

like

I'll rephrase. Some of the best attorneys I knew were insurance defense lawyers. They handled some sophisticated matters and knew their way around a courtroom.

like

Haha my old bosses started cutting my hours and told me to make them up in december (65 hours + december time) then what you ask what the bonus will be if you make your hours, they dont tell you lmao

I put my 2 weeks in that week and made over double what they were paying in just two years.

Get out of ID...its only good for equity partners. That's literally it.

like

I was in defense approximately 3 years

I am in ID. I print my time before they cut or take it.

like

They should count your hours worked toward billables

like

They do, but ultimately the firm is losing money on me because the partner is cutting my hours. The partner is very vindictive and is pissed about HR taking the associates side about micromanaging associates and causing them all to want to quit. So I’m trying to figure out how to protect myself now that the partner has resorted to causing the firm to lose money by cutting my time since she’s embarrassed HR did not take her side in the recent investigation. I have worked here 13 months and my billing has not changed, and she suddenly has gone from cutting maybe 10 hours a month to 25-40 per month in the last 3 months since the HR investigation. It is no coincidence lol

like

I'd go elsewhere

like

Sounds like classic retaliation. Go back to HR and let them know that since their investigation, she's changed the way she's evaluating your billing. They should want to know.

Hi all,

I have cleared all the interviews for Walmart and salary negotiations are also done. Received a job offer. Was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on a concern I had about it. It's an entry level position, and I don't have much experience. The billables are 2040 a year. For billable hours in civil litigation and insurance defense, is 2040 hours for a 1st year associate on the high end in this field for a small or midsize firm? It seems like most attorneys I know have minimum requirements of around 1800. The compensation is around 80k a year.
