At what age is it no longer acceptable to wear a backpack to work? Or is it based on level?

I have a company backpack I use daily. But when going on client site, I'll often carry by handle to avoid looking too much like a student for first impressions (I'm in my late 30s, but some insecurities don't go away)

I have a Tumi backpack and I’m hardly the only MD with one

Wear what is comfortable for you and whatever fits what you need to carry on a daily basis. Backpack, purse, messenger bag, etc.

Always doing one bag travel for work, so i save Tons of Times as i am Always flexible and my back is not ruined. So you can only skip the backpack when you just use your car and elevators or you are stupid

Around the time you enter the workforce, assuming your goal is to look put together.

I work in public sector mate

Worked at a T2, BCG and now in MF PE. Backpacks have been fine in every environment and at all levels. Ive seen 40 year old PE partners that net $10M in a year rolling in to the office wearing a hoody and Jansport

M1, sell side. We are still suit and tie most days along with lace ups and briefcase.

Fridays and hot sumner days maybe a little more relaxed.

My natural instinct is to assume rejection if I have conflict with a partner or don’t think my feelings are reciprocated. I’ll try to bring it up with them, but I’ll say “if you want to end this feel free” so it doesn’t hurt me (and they can say what they really mean instead of sugarcoating). Someone told me today that they just assume I’m not interested because I always seem to “run” but I’m not sure how to bring up problems/feelings otherwise. How do you approach these hard questions?

Monday Morning rumination: unsolicited advise is criticism.

Much to reflect on with this topic. Last week I was told in a 1:1 with a new contact that I was “too direct”. After some time chewing on the conversation I was struggling to place the emotions I was feeling. Turns out I was feeling guilty and shame for being me, for taking up space. Lesson of the week: unsolicited advice is a criticism of you, a micro aggression of who you are, and being “too much”. What would you do??
