Baby on the way! Any tips for two working parents post paternity leave? Is it possible to WFH with a new born and not pay for day care?

Misled on Maternity Leave Policy. I found out I only get 4 weeks pay for maternity leave (STD +“sick days”). I will take 12 weeks but wont get paid for 8 weeks. I work for a US, west coast based company in the tech/VC industry. Their website claims to offer “paid parental leave and other progressive benefits for parents”. I didn’t find out until after I was hired their pay was only 8 weeks but since I have been at the company less than 12 months, I don’t qualify for their policy. Is this unfair?

I am a personal injury defense attorney and I’ve never done plaintiff’s work. I have a case where I suspect the plaintiff is malingering and exaggerating his injuries. The plaintiffs attorney has sent me multiple demands for $3 million dollars and basically begged me to respond with some offer. Has anyone ever dealt with Geico UM case where they insist that a release needs to be signed? Geico extended our client’s policy limits but wants him to sign a release. We offered to sign an acknowledgment of receipt of funds but Geico said without a release signed, they will not issue payment.

I currently work at a small PI firm in Atlanta were EVERYTHING is settled presuit. If we’re unable to settle, then it’s referred to another firm for litigation. This whole process seems very atypical to me and the attorneys rarely touch a file until the first liability offer is received. The paralegals handle everything from intake to drafting the demands. The attorney briefly skims (does NOT read) the demand packages and signs. Is this ethical?? Anyone else work at a firm that is run this way??

One of the reasons I want to transition from industry to consulting (tier 1) is that I get frustrated when I have to collaborate with mediocre people. My assumption is that Tier 1 consulting firms hire really sharp people and if I can get in, I’ll be collaborating with folks on top of their game (not expecting much from clients). I’m aware there are personal aspects I need to work on like my mindset, patience etc etc, but I just get so frustrated with blatant stupidity.
