Depends on your relationship with your parents. It can sometimes lead to awkwardness when you/they feel like you're indebted to them. My husband did the same with his parents and whenever we made 'big' purchases that they found out about (nesspresso machine, etc) or went on vacation or mentioned that we were saving to buy a house, there was always a comment like 'oh, so you have money' or 'hmmm I guess you just don't want to pay me back yet?'. It only took us a few months before we decided to save up quickly and pay them off.

I second this. I borrowed money from my parents and it was their way of having more of a stranglehold on my life.
I paid it off as soon as I could and got my life back. I severed ties with them not long after for other more personal reasons.
