Got an offer for a sales applications manager role at Cisco and a Strategic AE role at Amazon - both are basically the same pay (130~ base, 220 OTE)
I don’t have any friends at either company so I was curious if anyone has experience and can shed some light on culture/ work life balance to help me make a decision? Thanks for the help guys!
How would you describe the culture at IBM?

I can’t speak to Chicago specifically, though I’ve worked amicably with some partners out of that office. I’d say that more broadly, the complaints I’ve heard about JL predominantly just were about pay compared to workload. JL pays less than all the other Big 4 (and significantly less than true Big Law). IMO any minor grievances get magnified when in the back of your mind, there’s always this thought that you could be doing the same work (and potentially dealing with whatever minor issues you have) at some other firm while being paid more. In my experience, I saw a lot of turnover at JL, and way less than at another one of the Big 4 where I currently work, but that has largely just been salary-driven.
That all being said, I’ll defer to any JL Chicago people to weigh in on whether there are concerns at that office specifically.

It’s not bad but it depends on the office. I’ve heard the California offices are not fun to work for. Other than that, the culture is pretty good. From what I understand, they’ve done a lot of work on their culture over the past few years.
As current employee at Chicago office, Associate attorneys have it hard as the workload is heavy and the pay compared to Big 4 is way less. If JL treats the Associates awful. The support staff get treated even worse. From what I've gathered the OA has said they can't use the washroom 30 minutes prior to leaving the office. Wants all support staff seated at desk as attorneys "get anxiety" from not seeing their secretaries. However, there's a max of 6 attorneys in office any given day. Can't take a WFH days to accommodate doctor appointments. Forced to use PTO and sick time to then have OA deny it. Not allowed to take time and make it up either. They say they have a hybrid schedule that's untrue. They have a rears in seats motto (at least for support staff). No bonuses and yearly raises are non existent. OA abuses her power leaves assignments half done for reception and support staff to deal with. Its a hell hole. Stay away.
