Emptied some stuff over the weekend 😎

Any one familiar with comp for a Portfolio Associate roll at PIMCO on their mortgage backed securities team? I’m looking at an offer and want make sure I’m in line with the average comp for the company and industry. Only 4 months of experience and offer is 98k w/ 10-20% bonus plus 15k relo/ sign on. Looking at Glassdoor, bonuses seem higher than quoted by the hiring manager. (No written offer yet they say they’re still working on it)
Which one to choose between Optum and Tiger Analytics for Data Scientist position? Where can I expect better data science domain expertise (In my previous companies I found very less understanding of Data Science practices as team)? Heared good things about both of these. Also hearing Tiger is expanding rapidly and getting some crap projects as well in the name of data science. Could someone put light on these things?

You overestimate how tech savvy the people from the big tech layoffs are. They’re mostly cutting the fat first, so marketing, sales, and maybe ops. And then to non-essential tech, so people working with internal tooling initiatives that are no business-critical

How is sales “fat?”

I think you’re giving people in tech too much credit. The margins at some tech companies was so high there is no urgency or fiscal discipline.

I’m skeptical that would be an outcome.
For starters, the numbers dont align. IT is 3% of all employees in “most” companies. 10,000 layoffs is a drop in the bucket.
Second, I’m skeptical that a big tech employee is going to accept a huge reduction in pay, radically different work environment, and likely change location.
Third, i dont think being a big tech who employee is successful in a fully mature devops org is going to be successful in a traditional waterfall IT org

For sure I feel weakest on that one. And agree that another big tech job isn’t immediately available given across the board freezes.
I just recall my last search when looking and being offered roles at a 50% paycut after months of searching. My only thoughts were do I take this for 3 months while I keep on looking or reject it outright. Big assumption-but feel others would see it similarly and not look to be multi year change agents.
I am worried by how this is being conducted. IBM did something like this a while ago and it was atrocious behavior. I can’t believe what is happening to the folks at twitter. I know what they are going through and it’s so god damn awful.
^ that’s not the same as Twitters package. Yours is more of the norm. Twitter employees or former employees will be fine
