Can someone at Spotify clarify US remote work expectations for me? Is the expectation that you are physically located in the EST time zone? Or just that you are willing to work the corresponding hours in your time zone?

Wanted to highlight Prudential Financial’s hiring practices. They rescinded my offer once I attempted to negotiate the salary. The official reason given was that I didn’t “sound excited enough”.

Depends on the company. Some companies are doing a hybrid model where you have to come in some days. Other companies do full remote as long as you reside in one the states they are registered to operate in.
The question to ask during the first interview is "I live in state X, is that aligned with your remote work policy"
Most companies won't expect complete overlap with a single time zone unless there is say 80-90% of people in one time zone. Usually meetings happen in some overlap time. You can help this culture norm by not scheduling meetings early MST and by declining meetings that are late EST.
