Needs to show the above flow
1.)Realize that your audience is a future client.
2.) Demonstrate you understood and executed a past client’s demands based on their apriori concerns, goals and hopes using the metrics they created for you.
3.) Demonstrate how you met/exceeded those demands/metrics and can do the same for this prospective future client.
4.) Tell them how they can contact you.
From a design perspective it’s usually logo, color system and design application with a short blurb on the business problem. Basically an understanding of the issue and how you created a successful and versatile system across comms.
A case study’s goal is to demonstrate your thinking around the problem, not just how good of an artist you are.
Anyone can mock a sexy dribbble design. But that says nothing about you as a designer. Design is about problem solving.
How did you solve business problems (operational or aesthetic problems) in said project? Rather than just focusing on how good your folio looks, establish what attributes you want the reader to know about you after they leave your site. Use case studies to align you closer to your long term professional goals. (Expert, craftsmanship, systems thinking, elegance, etc)
By using this approach, an icon set isn’t just an bunch of nice-to-have icons anymore. They’re meticulously crafted 2px line icons that helped X organization increase their accessibility and content’s legibility.
