Can someone please explain how B4 consulting project leadership actually works? I've heard that SMs and above have to "network" and create/find their own projects, and consultants need to network and find projects, but logistically what does that mean, especially for remote/geographically disbursed teams? Is there a portal where you can see what projects are happening? Do they use Salesforce or something to track existing clients so you don't try to sell to someone who was already approached?

So generally, Manager and below are assigned projects through resource management or internal networking. Once you hit the Senior Manager/Director level, you’re expected to be working with Partners on RFPs, with the expectation that if you win the bid you’ll run with the project and be responsible for managing delivery.

Usually you don’t get involved with CRM like Salesforce until you hit the Senior Manager level. Additionally, Senior Managers and above are expected to sell significant amounts of work. This is why it’s highly recommended against coming in above the Manager level, the expectations of a Manager vs Senior Manager are massive.

SMs are responsible for bringing in business, or they are known as an expert on something and get selected to be an SME. SMs don’t need to be utilized at crazy numbers as their role is different in the firm than say a consultant. And yes there is CRM to see the pipeline.

What are the KPIs for expert track SM? For regular track is it sails related?

Cont'd... I have some B4 consulting interviews coming up as well as industry interviews and I know how these things work in industry, but I keep hearing that B4 is very different.

Just landed a full time gig, looking to get some furniture so I’m not working on my parents’ kitchen table during this remote period. Any recommendations for desks and chairs? I’m hoping to find something that’s easy to assemble and break down for when I need to move, and something that won’t cost an arm and a leg.

I know everyone has a different kind of setup that works for them. I currently have a laptop, drawing pad, second monitor, and a desk riser.

One of the reasons I want to transition from industry to consulting (tier 1) is that I get frustrated when I have to collaborate with mediocre people. My assumption is that Tier 1 consulting firms hire really sharp people and if I can get in, I’ll be collaborating with folks on top of their game (not expecting much from clients). I’m aware there are personal aspects I need to work on like my mindset, patience etc etc, but I just get so frustrated with blatant stupidity.
