I'm currently reading "The Anxious Generation" - eye opening for any parent about how phones and social media are harming our kids. And the biggest indicator of kid / teen phone use is what they see their parents doing.

We are guilty of what you're describing, but now we are trying a new rule where we put our phones in our room when we get home from work, so we are fully with our kids. Small steps in the right direction I hope.

FWIW he's not the only one, we're all guilty of this, but hopefully we can be better...

My wife is just like you're husband. I have told her repeatedly that when we are in the same room together, such as watching a few TV shows before hitting the sack, that I don't care if she isn't fixated on me, but just don't keep your head down glued to that damn phone. The other Saturday the kids were at their grandparents and we were watching TV after dinner. I cooked dinner. I really doubt she realized what she was eating because the phone was lying next to the plate. I told her to find the show she wanted to watch. I came back into the living room, completely naked, and sat in my recliner. About 15 minutes later I asked her to hand me the remote. When she did, she saw what she had missed. I told her I hoped I wouldn't have to resort to such drastic actions to get her attention when the kdis were home, but not to be surprised if I did. She said she would "do better," and she has. Not completely, but it's hard going cold turkey.

We have the same problem in our house. I had to say that after 7:00 we are no longer on phones in this house because we are spending time together as a family. We might scroll for a minute in bed but from like 7-10 no phones.

I went through my gf’s phone and found out she had a crush on my best friend when we first started dating (over a year ago). I suspected this at first but it hurts to have it confirmed and see her telling her friends about him. I’m not sure how I should feel since I went out of line to look through her phone.

Hello - wise 🐠 of the north! Did anyone come here as a dependent with their spouse on study permit or vice-versa?

At my uncles wedding in Madrid I remember lying down on the grass in the courtyard after their first dance and crying, my Dad came and saw me, laid down in his suit beside me and asked what was wrong.

“I know my boyfriend wouldn’t dance with me like that at our wedding”

And we just lay there as I cried, and then got up. Had a drink.

Said boyfriend left years ago, and now I have a wonderful man who just asked me what type of dance lessons I want for our wedding next year.

Don’t give up.

Girlfriend has very obvious high functioning anxiety and body image issues that she admits but thinks she doesn’t need therapy or medication and that reading self-help books will help her. It’s not changing in the last several years and it’s impacting our relationship. Anyone have experience with their SO dealing with untreated anxiety? I know I can’t control her but would like to express my feelings without sending her into a spiral. For context, I’ve been in therapy for 12 months and medicated

My anxiety has been at bay after changing my job and just feeling like I HAVE control over my life. But now it's back because I feel like I'm behind in other aspects of my life (I.e dating). I have so many friends getting engaged and I just feel... anxious since I am SO single. I'm 27, and I know I'm at that age where people do but it just sucks. I've been on the apps too and it's just... more demotivating honestly than anything else

A long post: seeking some perspective. My husband of 2 years that I’ve been in a relationship with for more than 8 years just woke up one day and told me that he’s unhappy in our relationship. I’m devastated because he’s never expressed anything like this in the 8 years. He’s been super supportive and loving, even when we were in a long distance relationship. He supported my career and dreams and this just doesn’t make sense. We have gotten a counselor but things aren’t getting better. Comment>

One of my best friends growing up just passed away. We lost contact with each other a year or two after graduating high school and I recently came to learn he was was battling cancer the past 5 years and ultimately succumbed to the illness. He hid it well from everyone and led a very private life during it all. To make matters worse, he had just turned 25. Seeing pictures of the condition he was in towards the end of his fight broke my heart. I wish I had known so I could’ve been there for him.

Hi Fishes, any openings for B.E freshers (2022 batch)? Please help.
If any suggestions on how to apply too, please let me know.

Why do many associates at top tier firms stay to make Partner when they can go in-house in tech and make around the same, even long term? For example, you can make near 400-550k in-house at Google, Netflix, FB with 8-10 years of exp. More senior than that in-house, it can easily break $1M.

5+ years of full-time job as developer and still waiting to reverse a LinkedList at work.

Since there is a heavy impetus on solving Tree, LinkedList, and Graph problems for tech interviews, it can naturally make freshers believe that these concepts will be used in day-to-day life at work. In reality, most of these DSA concepts are already implemented in some libraries our code uses and we rarely have to code such Algorithms by hand.

Is Operations paid the least at your respective firms? I was hired to a Client Service Delivery role with a heavy focus on project management. I regularly interface with leadership internally and at the client. But, I am aligned to the “Operations” capability and make the least of my teammates who perform seemingly identical work but are aligned to “Strategy and Consulting.” I worry I’m on a career path to being paid the least wherever I go, because Operations is in my title and background.
