Client aiming to close a deal on the last day of the working year. Partner is pretty much MIA. There’s a lot of work to be done and I’m only in my first year. I’ve done the ground work, but need him to check I’m not missing anything. The partner is barely communicating with me let alone our client and the other side. Part of me just wants the partner to give me full permission to run this myself (it probably won’t be perfect, but it’ll get done especially with guidance from the other side). Cont

Follow up with the partner at least everyday as a CYA in case someone later gets mad. Don’t go out to try to “save the day” unless someone asks you to.

Most importantly, understand that every single business principal in the USA is saying that they want their particular deal closed by the end of the year, and, like all those kids asking for a new Xbox this year, most of these guys are not getting what they want for Christmas.

I think it’s fair game to check in with the partner and ask if they’ve heard anything about closing being pushed. Mention that there’s a lot of ground to cover, or that you’re not clear on how timing usually works. No one can fault you for asking questions.

If I was you, I would just leave it to the partner for now. I feel like you have already stated you need your work to be checked and if you took control at this point, you may miss some key aspects of the deal, which could hurt your client.

^this. It's one thing to take initiative if you have some idea about how to finish it off correctly. It's another to commit malpractice. You sound like you know what you don't know. Keep the partner in the loop and make it clear you do not know how to finish it off without fear of missing something. If you're unsure, then hound the shit out of them.

like

Do I just leave this as beyond my control and let the partner respond at his leisure? Or do I push to take more control and actually get this thing done. If it continues the way it’s going, it won’t get done...

No mid levels or seniors on this, just me and the partner. It’s a big client.

What do I do?

Home reno financing question. Have a big project coming up in the $120-150k range. Funding sources are:
- 90k from a heloc around prime
- 10k from a credit card that offers promo checks at 2-3% for 12-18 months
- 375k in a brokerage
- 5-6k per month cash that I can put towards the project, loans, or brokerage

I don't want to stop funding the brokerage because my FIRE plan is less numbers based than "hoard like dragon until it's enough" but maybe I should... How would you optimize?

Are you responsible for giving performance feedback? Avoid giving personality based feedback. Examples include telling an Asian person they are too quiet/shy or telling a Black person they are agressive/abrasive. DO NOT DO THIS. It clearly represents bias in Performance Management. Performance feedback should be tied to business outcomes with clear examples of what the person does well + how they can improve.
