Can I still work as a telemarketer even though I have a noticeable accent? People don't say they can't understand me but they seem relieved when they get to talk to somebody else. I’ve been asked by a client to coach their team on how to structure and write scripts for their corporate event content (e.g. panel discussions). I’ve happily had a crack at helping them but it’s a bit out of my wheelhouse - is this ask something that would ordinarily be given to an agency copywriter? Or would it usually be something a content or speech writer would do?

My VP asked my fellow team member to take on a task simply because of her race to help them land a grant renewal. We’re both women of color but since I didn’t match the target audience I was not asked even though the task is on a project I am overseeing. We’re both offended with how this was handled by the VP, are we overreacting?

There’s no reason you have to put up with a job you hate. I spent many years working in a toxic environment with a boss who gossiped and lead through fear. He wasn’t really much of a leader but basically a foreman. And he could make my existence miserable. I admit that it wasn’t easy to find another job but the bottom line is: trust your guts. If you feel something is wrong it’s because it probably is. Don’t second guess yourself. Look for options and and fight for your mental health.

Can someone explain how billable hours work? I guess it’s common now to not bring a laptop to show your work at an interview? We’ve had 10 art director candidates come through and maybe 7 of them did not come with any way of showing their work.
