I think so much will depend on the specific firm and it’s people, but from experience I would hands down choose RIA every time. I was with BD to start my investment career, then moved to RIA, now back at a BD only because we moved and this was the job that was available but now actively talking to another RIA. In my experience it feels like a more “grown up” and mutually respectful environment in an RIA vs a BD where big brother is always watching over.
RIA is the direction the industry is going. PM me if you want to have a conversation.
I made the switch and I love it! Co-workers are so respectful and always willing to help, not like a broker-dealer where it’s so cut throat.
