Insurance is simply risk-management. How much do you want to pay for peace of mind? Term is probably the short answer and everyone in your age range should probably have some sort of term LI outside of what your employer offers. Consider specific goals if you choose to ladder as part of your bigger overall financial plan. Something like "if I pass before age xx, i'd like my house paid off or i'd like my kids' education paid for" and structure your policy/policies accordingly. Probably better to be slightly "over-insured" than under. Obviously, shop around for the best rates. At your age, assuming decent health/non-tobacco users, you can probably get some pretty decent 20 - 25 year term for a good price.
Also 35 and have LTD. 8 bucks a month for 67% salary in case something happens. No longterm care. Budgeting for retirement and will plan that cost rather than insure it.

if you make $80k+, drive to work, and/or have a home, then consider a 1M+ umbrella policy.
(Else, 1 bad car accident with injuries could leave you exposed)
