*always* a difficult transition. Important for you to appreciate that. Not because you’re incapable. Problem is no one wants to train you. Best approach I’ve found was to slowly start acquiring experience directly with clients or indirectly by joining the entertainment section of the local bar or the ABA. Start writing about it via blog, social media, etc. Subscribe to IMDb, which not only provides bios of certain folks (sometimes lawyers when they receive a film credit) but is also an entertainment business aggregator. This is definitely doable but requires persistence.
You need to start by networking. No ifs, ends, or buts. Best organizations are the ABA Forum on Entertainment and Sports Industries and BESLA. Go to all of their events and actually get to know those of us who practice in that field. Very cut throat but the organizations make it way more approachable.
Well the market isn’t doing the best rn so it’s not just you.
What kind of entertainment work are you interested in?
Interested in film and tv (production, distribution work). I’m not very interested in talent representation.
