Pro:
More options for career than tax partner / head of tax at PE fund
Networking
Increases learning opportunities
Be ready for changes to industry
Beat the boredom of continuously training new hires that quit
Find a job where I feel more purpose and am not just generating wealth for the wealthy
Hours at current job are unpredictable and have made making friends in new city difficult — might meet friends in MBA
Get away from fratty work culture and give up trying to change it
Less stress (current partners always seem on the edge of a mental breakdown from stress and I don’t want to be them)
Con:
Like current coworkers
Tons of flexibility at current job as trusted
Decent salary at current job
Very stable job / no layoff concerns
Unclear on exact goals post MBA and hoping to figure it out through process — ideally would pivot to corp. finance or strategy role in industry for company I admire
Cost of tuition ($150k) could be better spent elsewhere (downpayment)
Want to stick around to push more women through to leadership as currently none
So I kinda did this and not sure how much the MBA really matters in the long-run. Getting my MBA was always a goal of mine so completing was more personal achievement than career altering. I did it part time at a top 20 school and yes I still the debt because job offers did not vary based on my experience with or without the MBA, rather got me to the interview phase when compared to all the other Palo mags . Happy to chat further on this.
Yes please DM
