So PDM to core can certainly happen, but it’s not easy and takes a lot of time. If you perform well and intentions are known, you should be able to do it but honestly would say it’ll be a few years down the line. You can’t make that switch in your first year and will need a lot of championing to get you over. If approved, it can only happen during two windows of the calendar year. Don’t want to be negative, just want to give you a little insight- totally possible, but set expectations on timing
My manager seems really nice*
It is very very very difficult to switch. Is it too late to make the decision to go with a normal track?
PDM is D’s way of stripping out the cost. So they offer you more money with less overhead. They don’t ask you to do firm initiatives. This is supposed to be a win win for everyone. However, what it means is that they don’t invest in you. You’re not going to DU, you’re not looking at regular promotions, you’re not getting things like a phone etc. You have to take PTO to do things like attend golf tournaments instead of charging GAA like everyone else. They’re not putting you on the dinner cruises for networking events. From what I recall, every PDM all hands was people complaining about the track and how they’re not treated the same way as normal consultants
And while yes firm initiatives can be annoying, they’re all opt in, and many firm initiatives are things like going to a golf tournament or organizing a 5k….or whatever your hobby is
However this was a few years ago so maybe things changed? But if they gave you the option, see if you can switch
Are the benefits as terrible for PDM as everyone says? I’m relatively healthy but see a specialist or two here and there for precautions also in therapy. I currently don’t pay anything for therapy and have a $30 co pay for specialist. No kids and no one else on my plan.
