I’m presently interviewing for a job in privacy consulting that doesn’t require even a JD, but for which my legal skills and JD will help. Also, I did research before I jumped ship and got certified as a privacy professional.
I genuinely love privacy law and tech so this is perfect for me. It blends everything I like about being a lawyer; I like learning about the law, researching, and writing about it. What I don’t like is litigating or the billable hour. This will be a happy in-between.
Privacy law has definitely become my passion and this new opportunity will be a good step in focusing solely on that. The tech element is a bonus for me because I do enjoy learning about all things tech too.
I’ll keep you posted on if I get the job lol. Next and final interview on this upcoming Tuesday.
This sounds exciting! I hate billing and litigation, but love learning, research, writing, and counseling. Other than certification as a privacy professional, anything else about your background that’s helping you make the switch?

I wouldn’t say I exited to follow my passion per se. but I did exit attorney life and joined the other side by going into legal recruiting recently. So far so good as it seems to have aligned nicely with what I believe are my better skills and what I enjoy doing more.
What would you say those skills are that align with recruiting? Trying to figure out if that would be a good option for me.
