I see this all the time and still can't figure out why ppl get so upset? If you're working, hit chargeable code. Are you adding value to the firm? Hit BD or MDI. If you're not...are you actually going into the office for 8-9 hours a day to work on getting staffed? Probably not. You SHOULD be hitting PTO. Honestly, hitting bench would only hurt you later anyway.
What is the big deal? We offer so much PTO in the US. You know it's coming months in advance, so plan ahead to be staffed or be on vacation. Not difficult
Because other people have plans such as weddings and babies they would like to use their time for no one should ever be told when they have to use their PTO I’ve been with Accenture for 19 years and this is just crap that they make us do this.
Not that it matters, but I'm 35, married and been at the company for nearly a decade. I never even get close to running out of PTO. That's almost 5 weeks!
I've also come from a low income family, where both my parents worked two full-time jobs to make ends meet. They never had days off, not even on Christmas. I took my first family vacation in my life after I started at Accenture. When I say that our PTO policy is generous, it's relative to the median and mode of careers/jobs in the US. Please consider that we have a lot of luxury, and asking people to use PTO for our shut down is much better than what I've seen in other cases... Where if you don't have PTO to cover it, you're just not paid when the business is closed.
It’s not vacation if it’s mandatory. It’s a holiday. It would be much more honest (and legal perhaps) to reduce your vacation days and increase your holidays.
Accenture could tell you that you need to bring your own toliet paper to work and someone on here would desperately try and defend it
Ok hold up. Everyone talking about “oh in Europe they have to take time off” — uh, they have a bajillion days off. This is apples to oranges. They also have unlimited paid sick time. I have 27 days for time off and sickness...
Source: worked in Europe for 4 years, had 45 days off per year PLUS holidays (of which there are plenty, some EU countries more than others). And I was sick whenever I was sick — oddly, giving folks the freedom to take sick time no strings attached resulted in very little abuse of the system. And no one came to work spreading germs because they “just had to come in” so they wouldn’t blow their measly PTO balance.
In much of Europe they’re forced to take the month of August off, which counts as part of their “vacation time” but they don’t complain, they enjoy it. And we in the US are always complaining about how much time off Europe gets. Well, here’s a taste of that pizza
Lol @ Accenture 1! You think we have plenty of PTO? I get 23 days, that's "a lot" to you? Good one! Also, you do not need to be a company of 5,000 to have unlimited PTO work. My husband works for a company of about 150k employees and it works just fine, although it's not true "unlimited." How old are you?
Good managers/partners sell-in the holiday case break. If you roll the dice and don't take vacation, you're technically eligible for short term staffing. Inevitably someone gets stung with a DD or proposal assist.
@H1 - that's a bit easier when you're less than 5000 ppl. We have more than 450k folks. Unlimited PTO is simply not feasible at scale.
Id welcome it too if they didn’t make us use our PTO.. not giving us more days off
A2 - do you typically use all 27 of your days? Do you ever run negative?
Also, FWIW, you can go into the negative, as long as you make it back up by end of FY.
👆So you knew you had nothing of value to add but you spoke anyway.
Are you my Senior Manager?
We need to take the entire time off
Not cruel at all, I wish PwC would have more of these voluntold holidays. I accrue PTO Time much faster than I can use them
D2 - if you didn't burn those days... What would you have been doing? Sitting at home waiting for your next gig? How is that different from PTO?
We are a public company. Thems the breaks.
PwC has mandatory PTO between Christmas and New Years. Half the days are given as “holidays” and the other half you are expected to charge vacation.
