You typically pay taxes on the state you live in. So if you live in NY you pay taxes in NY. Claiming you live in one state for tax purposes but actually living in another is fraud and they don’t play games… unless you have like millions of dollars then the rules don’t apply
Ahh okay… cuz my husband lives in New York and I am in Washington. We are thinking of a 50/50 split of me travelling back and forth so wonder how that would work?
NY has been particularly notorious about going after tax evaders. They have even checked cell phone records to see what state a person has spent most of their time in if the person was claiming to be a resident of another state.

In the work from anywhere life, you pay taxes on where you physically work. If your office is in Washington, but you live in NY and work from your home office in NY, you pay NY tax. But when you take a work vacation to SC, then you would pay SC tax that week
SA1- that is how both Accenture and EY do it. When we travel for work, we book the client’s location as our work location. My wife’s company figures it all out on the backend, which seems a bit off, but they also don’t travel as much as we do
