Do you learn quicker staying at one job for an extended period of time or job hopping?

100% job hopping. And each hop will increase your comp. If I’d stayed at my first job and just learned more there, I’d only be at MAYBE $100k after 5 years (started at $75k). But since I hopped a lot, I’m now at $220k. Hopping is always the answer

likefunny

Hard disagree when it comes through learning. It takes close to a year to truly ramp up in any org. For salary increase though job hopping is the way

Job hopping all day, more exposure to more kinds of client work makes you better at your role, and the pay bumps are significantly faster and better staying in one company

like

Breath <> depth though I agree the answer isn't staying at one company forever

like

I agree, job hopping is really the best way to learn more and stay on top of whatever is happening in your field. I always try to stay somewhere for 3-5 years depending on what opportunities are available to me, then Iw ill start to look for a new position to make sure I don't get complacent and am always learning.

like

Job hopping and it's not even close. Consulting is already a career accelerator because you touch so many more types of projects and normally work cross-vertical. If you go firm to firm it's a lot of work buts the easy button to career acceleration for the jump to industry.

like

I'm surprised by everyone's answers here, I feel like it's a balance of staying long enough to actually get a grasp on things and then job hopping every 3-5 years to keep expanding your knowledge. But I wouldn't say job hopping more frequently than 3-5 years is recommended. You need to stay long enough to acutally learn something

smart

This is the right answer. I think even 3 years is too short of building knowledge/deep skills.

Is moving to management track better that being an IC as specialist role? I have currently 2 offers with slight difference in package whereby ic role is fetching more price since I am using my 1st offer to counter. But 1st offer being a management track, I am more inclined to it. Any suggestions.

Current xp is 10 years as BA and keenly looking for onshore role too. Not sure if going in management track, I can still travel onsite.

Hi all!
Would love some insight on how you went from an HR assistant/coordinator to an HR Generalist. I’ve been in the HR world for 8 years, and only in the last 2-3 have I really done real HR work. The first company I was at didn’t have a solid HR team so I don’t really count that. I feel like I’m ready to take on more responsibility and learn more. And of course make more money.

I have looked into getting SHRM certification. But should I go back to school and get my masters in Hr?

Hi all,
I’m currently working for a small technical consulting start-up firm. I make good money, have great benefits, and they seem very happy with the work I’m doing, so I know I could move up quickly. However, tech consulting is definitely not my dream job. I want to get into data analytics, and I have an offer from a big company to do just that. I’ve only been at my current company for about 8 months, but I don’t ever see myself loving this job. How do I know when it’s time to make a change?
