Do you sell your most recent RSUs or do you wait until they’ve been awarded for over a year for tax purposes?

I’m in the 32-35% tax bracket, and RSUs are fairly new to me. I plan to sell a chunk for property in the next few months.

Our stock price went up about 50% since last year. Unsure if I should sell shares as soon as they vest and don’t have gains, or if I should sell the ones that vested > year ago, but have the 50% gain.

Personally, I always sell company stock once it's awarded. Granted I don't get much of it, but I don't like the idea of my income AND a huge chunk of my retirement/general savings being tied to one company. That's how all of the employees at Enron got screwed.

I would sell the ones with no gain before selling the ones with 50% gain. But if you need to sell the ones with gain, make sure you are past the 1 year mark so that it’s taxes as a long term gain.

helpful

Thank you

Any recommendations for finding the rare executive-level legal positions or for landing on the radar of the big executive search firms would be much appreciated!

We have done the math and I know we can afford much more but he doesn’t want to buy more than a 400K home. I’m almost positive we can afford 500K and be more than ok. But then he starts to talk about how much kids cost and how we will be house poor and we won’t be able to afford kids. 🤔 Am I insane??

I spent the last 3 months "growing up" & now I'm ready to go. 1st thing is for me to get my own place. I'd like to buy instead of rent because I don't want to pay someone else's mortgage.

I'm thinking of selling my car & cash out some of my 401k to buy a house. My thought is to put down 3.5% for a FHA loan then make a big payment towards the principal to reduce long-term interest.

Anything wrong with this thinking or anything else I should consider?
