No one will remember the extra days you worked but you’ll never forget the moments you missed.take the days off because you earned them throughout the year.
Think back on hot projects a year ago, or two years ago. Bet you can't even remember most of them. What feels hot right now will be a distant memory in a few months. Your opportunities to spend Christmas with your family are much rarer. Please try to put things in perspective.
I always come back to disaster and tbh it's inevitable. I hope your agency has some buddy system implemented. Take that PTO! You only have 1 life. Clients can wait bet they'd be somewhere with their families too.
Why does everyone wait until the very end of December to wrap up projects? One of my former employers would not allow employees to take off multiple days in December, even though our clients had closed their offices for two weeks between Christmas and New Years.
The emails can wait a few days it’ll be fine
Just don’t be the guy who splits every holiday and leaves the few scrubs actually working to do your job and theirs.
This has two sides to it.
The first being that there are coworkers who truly want the best for their team and will prioritize coverage to make sure people can enjoy their time off accordingly (and to allow them to take time off when it’s their turn).
The second is the client’s expectations and what is needed to fulfill their needs. Over the summer, leadership made it known that there would be work needed throughout the holidays and not everyone should expect to just disappear for 1-2 weeks. It became more of a if you want to work on this account, then you will work on it when clients need you to.
Double edged sword. Very much a, “we’ll make sure you can take your time off, it just won’t be when you may have wanted it.”
