Strategy consultant who graduated from OMSA. Not fully relevant but has helped
As someone that has done both omscs and omsa but not specifically in strategy consulting, how has it helped for you?
For strategy consulting? Not that relevant.
I could see it being somewhat useful if you’re working with data scientists. But it’s a pretty difficult program, and probably not worth it if you’re not going to use the technical skills
I work in strategy consulting, and the skills I learned in the OMSA program helped me build some scalable analysis tools that I use to advise clients. That’s earned me a lot of visibility in my company.
If you’ve used data analysis in your work already, and want to scale your approach, or add new analysis tools to your toolkit, I would recommend enrolling.
If you don’t already have a theory of the case on how more advanced data skills would help you in your job- maybe an MBA instead.
It’s a cool program. Did undergrad and some of the classes are dual listed, many parallel each other. If you have an interest in the the math behind analytics and want a more thorough understanding of the techniques its a fantastic deal and easy to manage online program. However, if you have no need specifically for a masters for your job or career ambitions don’t rely on analytics I wouldn’t say it’s worth it.
Thanks everyone. So I’m gathering that it is very very technical is that correct? Maybe I might be better suited for a business analytics degree?
Pretty technical and math heavy yes. If you just want to be better at using and speaking the language of analytics, rather than making models, you would probably like a business analytics degree more
Take a look at the iMBA program at U Illinois. Similar ideas as the OMSA, but for an MBA!
Thank you! I’d rather save my MBA pass though because if I ever actually need one it’s probably better if it’s a top one. In the meantime advanced MS degrees are preferred for me
