Does bdo really enforce if you go into negative pto it’s taken out of your paycheck? That is the most absurd thing I’ve ever heard.

I am curious why you believe this. You are essentially asking a company to serve as a bank and provide you an unsecured loan/advance.

Help me understand why you believe this is a benefit that should be provided to employees? I have not seen other companies provide such benefits. Do you believe is a good business practice for a company to incorporate? It's certainly a great perk to employees. Have you considered the impact to the business?

P1 I actually don’t have a huge problem with not allowing people to go negative (unless on exception basis). It has never been a problem for me and I’ve taken plenty of vacation. But it is the industry market standard and to take negative vacation out of people’s paycheck is absurd and where my real issue lies (which may not be accurate if you are right about the legal implications, OP may be confused. But if they are right this is egregious policy)

like

Protiviti allows us to negative up to 40 hours. Seems like poor policy. especially relevant for recent hires with planned vacations/holiday soft close. We have a lot of PTO so I’ve only seen recent hires have to go negative.

like

I’m at Protiviti too but I hate how they make us take soft close as vacations days

I left BDO with negative PTO balance. But BDO didn’t chase me for the money. Maybe not yet lol

like

Don’t know how BDO does it, but I’d imagine they just take it out of your pay if you quit with a negative pto balance

like

In summary, bdo has the worst pto policy. $ taken out of paycheck for going into negative (not sure if this is enforced but negative is not allowed), 16 days pto below manager, accrual caps at 12 days. No sick days. Makes no sense and is not competitive.

like

When I started at the firm I had an Italy trip planned for months in advance. I went negative but it wasn’t an issue and I just had to make it up through the normal vacation hour accumulation before I could actually earn any more vacation hours. Nothing was taken out of my paycheck

like

I can definitely see issues with this. My first year with my firm the flu went around the office and it was really bad. Most people were out a minimum of 5 days. I’d been at the firm all of 2 months at this time so I had no PTO accrued. I would have been screwed if it was policy to have pay docked. Thankfully I didn’t get sick but it basically would have come down to share my sickness, or lose 1/2 or more of a paycheck, or work every holiday for the rest of the year. Another situation: during hurricane Florence we had the option of unpaid time off, paid time off, or make up your hours by the end of the year, thankfully we were halfway through busy season so making up the time was easy; but I can’t imagine having to lose part of my paycheck after something like that.

Meanwhile there are some companies with unlimited time off policies (no accrual obviously)...

like

Partner 1

Only if it’s all lumped into one bucket. I’ve heard of places separating it out (for liability accrual purposes).

I should be able to take more pto in summer and then have all of busy season to accrue it back.

There is an alternative view. Someone should earn PTO before the use it. In your example, someone could earn/accrue it all busy season and then take it the following summer.

Must have too many people quitting with negative balances.

BT allows negative too up to a certain amount.

I’ve been in the negatives since right after I started with no problem.

Facebook Ads after iOS 14 changes.

I'll share my experience and urge you to share yours:

Since iOS 14 changes, Facebook ads isn't the same anymore. Why?

A. >75% iOS users denied tracking. They are no longer tracked across websites/apps. Facebook lost its edge.
B. Targeting and conversion tracking aren't as effective anymore.
C. Many advertisers have been migrating their budgets from Facebook to Apple and Amazon ads.

What's your experience? Let's all learn.
