Thoughts on Slalom San Fran office...
Raise your hand if you are violently hungover
McKinsey & Company Has any industry experienced candidates pivot to MBB Engagement Manager before? My roommate works at FAANG as Senior Analyst (Ops, 6+ YOE) and was approached by McKinsey & Company recruiter for an EM role. He hasn’t done consulting before. Would this be too much of a risk? His goal is to pivot to PE S&O eventually.

No, what your partner or whoever represents you says is what matters. It also matters how influential they are. So you better stick with the right group.
For us (Deloitte), it doesn’t matter if you hit it or not. It only matters if you are far off the average of your cohort which we get a report on before YE.
Point is that it is all about impact you make and someone at 84% versus someone at 96% doesn’t matter. We would view them in the same boat and discuss impact. Think of the goal as a wide gray band... you def don’t want to be far off but the exact goal everyone understands is an artificial number.
Btw for us if you hit like 110%, the convo is more wondering about burnout and isn’t really a positive in any way
Yes it does matter if you are at target because you are capped at 40 and someone is at 110% they will get recognition
I just did a year at 107% utilization and got a 6.75% raise (S1>S2). My coworkers got 5.5% and had 80% utilization. So it technically matters, but I am certainly not going to work this hard again for a 1.25% advantage over colleagues
