Are there any fundamental differences between a salary negotiation during the start (applying for the job) vs. Salary negotiation during a performance review (you’ve been employed for x time and looking for a raise). I’m in the latter and wondering if there are any maneuvers that are different I should be doing.

For those of us who don’t think we’ll be shooting for PPMD, what level SM do you think is the ideal jumping off point into a different job? What types of jobs and salary increase would you expect? I am looking for the weekend jobs in the production department. I have done graduation in mechanical Engineering and my majors were lean manufacturing and statistics quality control.
