Does your firm make allowances to billable hours for PTO/sick leave? Every firm I’ve been to has been “billing 9-12 hours a day until you make up the deficit.” That shit ain’t right, but curious if others have a different experience.

My firm (like many others) likes to boast about its “unlimited vacation and sick leave,” but every time I’ve been sick I’ve just found myself working extra hours to make up the time, and my “vacation time” slips away every time I have a slow week with not a lot to do.

I am looking for an anecdotal response from Pharma subject matter experts. What has more impact on pharma sales? Is it the sales activities, like medical reps reaching out to HCPs, giving away free samples, and conducting seminars and conferences? Or is it paid media marketing activities? Any directional insight would be helpful. Thanks everyone!

A parent of one of my students told admin she thinks it's irresponsible that I won't be grading over Christmas break. I let the students know to get any work they need graded in before the break and I'll get it to it during our workdays in January. Apparently that's not fast enough for her 🙄. Is it wrong that I'm sort of pissed off by this? Should I say something?

Do you fly out to family for the holidays or do they come to you? We're hosting Christmas for the first time and having the entire family come to town for it. What are some can't miss holiday events in the city? Ideally accessible because my father is in a wheelchair.

Two of my really good friends at work have had their work dry up in the past few months (because of the Rona). I'm like two months ahead of them on hours, and they're worried about not making their minimum billable requirements.

Feel sort of guilty and try to avoid talking about hours with them. I'm just hoping the firm doesn't give them trouble...

How consistent are your executives with their holiday gifts? one partner I support gave me $250 my first year with him and $500 last year. I really go above and beyond for him and in my feedback this month he told me I am the best EA he has ever had, so I was expecting at least the same. He has given me nothing this year (always gives it mid december or before I go on break -which I am now) also always give an e-gift card so not like it got lost in the mail. Not sure what to think...

Curious do you guys celebrate Christmas, other holidays? And not looking for religious bashing. Just curious for eg. I am big on Christmas/ holiday spirit. I get a tree, lighting, gifts, sweaters. But similarly I have family who get very mad at wishing Merry Christmas. I am curious where you guy’s heads are at. Any cultural differences between eg black vs Arab vs south Asian Muslims etc.

That moment when your "smart" plan to boost your hours this month by working the Labor Day weekend (thus turning down all the fun plans your friends made) becomes sitting on your hands & feeling dumb because all the partners are too busy to delegate anything. The worst kind of "off" day is one you planned to /wanted to work, but there's no billable work...

Ethics question: Going through a client’s medical records and noticed on his pre-op (minor surgery) chest x-ray some findings indicative of COPD. Client is heavy smoker. I am in constant contact with this guy and we talk often. If he had that diagnosis he would have told me about it. I also know, sadly, that doctors don’t always follow up on things they should, or overlook things, hence med mal claims. Should I alert my client to this and have him follow up w/his doc, or stay in my lane??
