Wow. I would never say that. I'm always open just in case.
I get a lot of please tell me more I find. If they aren't on the market, many times they are still willing to hear you out as if it is a better position they become more willing to discuss.
I think a lot of times it's a knee-jerk reaction, sort of like when we get a call from a telemarketer. Even if the offer is good, we tend to put our guards up and jump straight to "not interested." Being gently persistent can help, even if just to build out that talent pipeline for future use.
I think it helps to ask what they like/appreciate in their currently role and company that they would want in the next. Then talk about what other value adds there are. Most recruiters contact me like “my client needs a body ASAP, you look qualified”
Yeah that's so true, I just keep an open dialogue going. You never know when things are gonna work out in your favour
