EY folks, why does Independence ask that your spouse rolls over their ex-employer's 401k to a current one? What if the spouse doesn't want to do it? What are the options?

Oh and I don't think there's an option, so get the SO on board and start the process ASAP, it takes a while to get it all in order.

^ assumed it was a female spouse, my bad if not.

Lol, just finishing this up at D. They said they can't get access to directly import holding from previous employers plans

Divorce, fraud, dismissal for cause. Sucks major.

Think she can roll it into a separate IRA at a broker that offers a broker feed to EY. Can still manage it independently without being subject to the limited choices at her current employer.

Is 50% commission a good “salary”? Just received an offer with the following details: - 50% commission. Stepwise increase by 5% for every $5k per month (e.g., 50% of first $5k, 55% of next $5k, etc) (Resets every month) - treated as independent contractor - no health insurance, no 401k - no hour requirement, WFH option, flexible hours - they cover bar dues, CLEs I feel like 50% is very high. Obviously being an independent contractor costs me a bit more, but does this look like a decent deal?

How do you max out your 401k contribution for $19,500 limit without knowing what % contribution will get you there? Fidelity provides these calculators to help you figure out what contribution to set but I’m still not sure what % will get me to perfectly meet the limit without going too over or under in a year. Any tips on how people figured out the right contribution rate? Do people just go with 10-15%? I’ve been having it at 5% and feel it’s too low

Why is it so hard to find a generalist role in NYC? I’ve worked for the tiny firm where I did a bit of everything but the firm was managed by one person who was about to retire and had no interest in growing. I’ve spoke to tens of firms by now and most seems to concentrate heavily on partnership from which I’m actually trying to get away or solely on UNNW and family offices.

Please help! I have always wanted to live in NYC (currently live in the Midwest). I have the opportunity to move in with a friend to an apartment in NYC for about 2k/month. Currently my salary is 95k, I’m maxing out my 401k, Roth IRA, and contributing to employee share plan. After all of that my biweekly take home pay is $1650. Is it stupid for me to move to nyc and pay 2k in rent with that take home pay? Is it worth while for me to decrease contributions to live my dream out for a year or two?
