First time homeowner in Long Island (Nassau County). The Tax Grievance filing deadline is coming up and I am planning to file myself (I’m a healthcare regulatory attorney). I am filing only because I’ve been told you have to grieve your taxes to avoid a steep increase. I watched the tax assessor’s informational webinar and it seemed like a simple enough process, but I am wondering if there is any added benefit to hiring an attorney to do the filing. I would appreciate any thoughts/guidance!

I’m an attorney as well and always outsource this. There are attorneys who specialize in this (I don’t know of any in your area) but they usually know the ins and outs of the system and work on a contingency basis—charging you 1/3 of the savings or some other arrangement. But I would never do this work myself. And I practice primarily in real estate private equity.

Job has up to 80% travel PwC

How is typically life for these positions requiring travel? This is for a SWE position.
Currently work with clients is remote as stated by the recruiter. If work is currently feasible through virtual means, will there be flexibility to choose to travel for this position?

I have an offer with PWC and have a family. I would prefer to be with my family.

Recently lateraled as a public defender in HCOL area to ID in LCOL area for $$$. I’ve been at the job a little over a month. My concerns are that I’m getting very little guidance or mentorship, and I’m worried about not hitting billable hours (2000 requirement but I am just over 80 for the first month). I am only in charge of a ~5 cases atm and struggle with figuring out the next steps, etc. I’ve met all my deadlines that have come up. Thoughts or advice?

Its making me anxious because I don’t want to get fired for low hours but also I’m a first year so will they have some mercy on me? Lol
