Ride the waves where they take you. Smart hard working people are always in demand. It may not be an FS job in your specialty, but you'll get somewhere interesting. I graduated law school in the mid-2000s, lawyered, temped, worked as an assistant, and eventually made my way to the career I have now.
@OP, I just typed out this long thing about all the different scenarios, but honestly it would probably just feed into your nerves..so just keep your head up..we'll all be rooting that the meeting is something positive and if it isn't your FishBowl family is here for you
I believe it was across all of FS
HR set up a "career discussion" with me and my RP for today. This is what they were doing with the last round...That's why I'm on edge
The leader for my group was getting a lot of pressure to keep everyone billable after the start of the year, which was filtering down to all the Partners and Directors. So layoffs do make sense, just haven't seen an official statement.
If you're on the bench, then he may be actively trying to help you.
Not on the bench (until now) - rolled off yesterday
And this meeting was so important per HR that I had to change my flight
My coach told me to never acknowledge a "career discussion" meeting with HR without first talking to him haha he's good like that though and will tell me what's up so I don't get blindsided
(Or so he says)
If you can't pronounce your coach's name, you get a 2 in global acumen. If you're coach isn't supportive, get a new one or make sure you have good in-house mentors in your corner.
Update?
Definitely hit up KPMG above.
Posted this on another thread but they cut me and the other FS MC associate in our small FS market even though neither of us had been at PwC a year. We both came from a target school with strong campus relations which made how they handled everything more surprising. Neither of us wanted to be in FS and told recruiting so, but they put us in it and told us "FS is growing and we need you" so we sucked it up and did our work anyways. Billed a ton of hours and worked our asses off when half our peers were on the bench and had never been staffed. I think at one point, my month to date utilization was 142%. Neither of us saw this coming given our work product, utilization, and (obvious) lack of any performance improvement plans. It was a slap in the face to hear things like "you're so smart and your work product is so amazing" while being laid off. It's just crazy they put us in a group we didn't want to be in and wouldn't let us out, and now that group is having major financial issues and cutting 15% of its people. And then they gave us no notice ("today is your last day") and for me at least they wiped all my stuff like 20 minutes after the meeting so I lost all my contacts, have to sync a month of expenses by hand, no idea what to do about well being rewards or 401k.. .
You're in a small market team (as you mentioned earlier), and presuming these 10 emails on Friday were not from your team, then Im going to guess that these 10, just sent it to a larger distro. I'm in FS... I would have likely been on that distro. I did not get them. I got a couple on Monday and that's it.
update - just emailed both of you KPMG kind souls! Hopeful that something will work out
Do you guys want to set up a call? Happy to email both your emails together
As a campus hire, there are relations the firm needs to maintain with schools. It looks bad if we layoff after bringing you on 6 months ago. Doesn't mean it doesn't ever happen, but it definitely helps your case.
Is PWC laying people off now? Or is the whole industry? Didn't know any of this
Curious here, so please post any relevant details/info/support. This is the first im hearing of this - though if it's a PWC thing whatever
What kinda services are we referring to within FS
^ wish my coach did that
