For those of you at early stage startups - do you have an official parental leave policy? What is it? How do you make it work? I’m working on formalizing a policy at my company (~30 people, series A funded) and am wondering how other startups approach this.

We don't, but it's on my agenda to address. We don't have a HR person, so our COO and financial lead manage it. They are doing a good job overall, but plenty of room for innovation. Important to drive a pro employee centric culture early on. These things matter. Happy to DM with you and brainstorm.

Another thing to consider is polling your team to know what they need. Maybe they currently don't need it. Maybe more need it then you realize. I'm working on some surveys around benefit priorities.

I’ve seen it handled numerous ways but at the end of the day - you need one and it should be decent (6+ weeks). Usually some work can be spread amongst other team members and you may have to outsource some (agencies, upwork, contractors, etc.). Have the person leaving help find the best approach. We offer a flexible policy too so if they want to “come back after the 6 weeks” but only work part time or whatever hours they want remotely to help - that’s an option too.

Advice and/or consolation anyone? My wife and I (both above average health 30year olds) were trying for 11 months before getting pregnant and then had a week 5 early miscarriage a few months back. If the stress and surprise of just how difficult it apparently is to get pregnant wasn’t enough, the miscarriage put us over. We got back to it and have been trying for the last 2 months again, still no luck. We’re freaking out… all we want is a family. Any similar stories? Advice? 😢

I feel like a failure as a parent at times - my youngest daughter is extremely anxious about middle school and in the first week has already had two emotional breakdowns. She is so worried about people picking on her and not having friends. I have reached out to the counselor and principal with hopes to get her some support in school, but I can’t do anything to make it better. I feel like I should be able to do more than encourage her but I know some battles she had to fight on her own.

Question about inclusion…. I’ve been teaching inclusion for 5 years so I’m still a newb, but a first year coworker of mine said she got points off on her observation because her kids were scattered in the classroom and she was having to move from kid to kid to assist. While I see the point of putting them together for convenience, I don’t agree with this at all! To me this is like singling them out by putting them all together instead of INCLUDED amongst peers. What do y’all think?

What is PwC India for you?
It's a Big4 but will lowball you during offer negotiation.
It will ask you to work on multiple projects but will hardly appreciate or value your work.
They will ask you to come to the office on Sunday for business critical work and won't give any cab or food facilities.
You will be involved in multiple extra work, which you normally don't do in other service based companies. But there is no benefits/perks for that, you just end up doing extra work!!

Hi everyone, I work at an early stage start up that just closed our round A. I just hired a director below me, however when it was time to come up with an offer I was removed from the conversation. The CO-founders said they’d handle the actual offer amount/equity. I joined early so salary is low but I have decent equity. Not sure if they didn’t want me seeing the offer or if this is normal for early start ups.

I have 17,000 vested stock options, total number of shares at the time of my contract was 4million. I’m a bit confused about share dilution and if it’s worth it for me to buy some of my stock options… thanks in adv!
