try to speak from a conceptual/communication perspective, not from an art perspective. that way, it’ll be more about if it’s doing its job or not, not if it looks good, and you won’t have to solve the visual. hopefully you’ll still have an AD counterpart to lean on for that.
Whoa! Same thing. Are you me?
Lol, same. Following.
Hmmm well from a juniors perspective, just Be honest if you’re not feeling something, but have reasons why you aren’t. Also provide solutions or suggestions for how to change it- for example if you don’t like the order of the way it’s laid out, don’t just say “I don’t like this” say “I don’t like this because this, this and this maybe if we switch this to the top and make it the most important it will look better because this and this.
Hehe just a rough example but the more context and reasoning you can give behind why the visuals are not working the easier it is for us to go back to the drawing board and make something better. BUt also listen because every designer/AD should have a reason and purpose for where they put something or how they created something so listen to that and ask questions. If they don’t have a reason, it’s usually because working too fast or didn’t think about it and that’s a sign that it needs more thought put into it.
Another thing is challenge your creative to be conceptual to see the bigger picture before they start creating tactical ideas. Some of my best leadership in ACDs have always been the ones who come up with ideas alongside me and we develop them together. Not the ones who try to compete with me or hinder me from growing my ideas. So take time and find strong concept idea before you figure out how you’ll bring it to life. Because sometimes I need someone to help with that part. Hope this helps!
Just make sure the design is in strategy and what the client wants. Don’t nit-pick or micromanage
Be honest.
Don’t pretend to know the words.
Speak clearly, explain why you don’t like it or what you’d like to be different. Let them come up with solutions.
Thanks for all the feedback so far, really helpful, keep it comin
As a junior would you rather an ACD kill an ad or give you feedback to develop it? Considering you have 3 or 4 other ads that are solid and you have to work on those to present too.
Don’t micromanage and preface by acknowledging you’re micro-managing by saying “I hate to do it this way” don’t treat people like your pixel monkey, Be a lil more introspective and figure out if you’re coming from a place of insecurity,. Sorry I may be projecting my specific issues w my superior here.
