Let me clarify. It is ALL federal work. They gave you a vague answer for a reason. For the record, I just left BOoz Allen and worked with that group closely. Don't be duped OP !
That's all I needed to know - not for me. Thanks all of you.
Just left BAH two months ago, stay away. No upward growth whatsoever. Plus they pay low and give low raises. Projects are mostly staff aug on the federal side. BAH does have commercial but it's like less than 5% of total revenue. They had a non-compete just expire not too long ago so they're "attempting" to get commercial work. Not going well for them.
I was aligned to that group doing staff aug "analysis" work - most of my former colleagues dipped out. Avoid.
99% sure it's Federal
I've heard rumors of some ppl in the SIG having a bit of commercial work but I would be pretty cautious. Part of my team moved to NYC to do some commercial work and they were focused on financial services risk/reg work. In addition to the scope of work, I would spend some time drilling into culture related questions. Although ppl are throwing shade at pwc right now, my experience with the culture is exponentially better than my experience at BAH.
That's a huge market, hard to really pin point what it is. Ask very specific question on projects and scope to the recruiter.
I mentioned I am not interested in federal work and got a vague response about there being both federal and commercial clients and that they cannot speak directly to the work involved but their manager could.
I was duped by the vague 'some commercial, some government' line, too. It's only legit if you have something you can actually offer a corporate client and you're being considered by the commercial group, not civil-commercial, which is more like regulators and the doe.
Also, where are you located, and did they say anything about travel/relo? They've been sleazy about (mis)managed expectations about client location and geographical requirements lately, too. Hiring people and telling them a month later that relo is non-negotiable.
I'm in DC but mentioned I am interested in moving west in the next few years. The recruiter gave an example of someone heading to San Fran, making it sound like relo was fully supported, but I had my doubts if the work was primarily federal.
Some federal work is located in federal facilities on a full time basis. They can be in cool places like Honolulu but more likely San Antonio or Colorado Springs, tho geographic appeal is subjective...
