Please let us know what they counter with. Would be very helpful to hear if they are in fact “paying up” for external talent vs rewarding folks who grew up in the firm. Thanks OP!
Of course they are. It happens everywhere
We all do have work and tasks but as someone who came from industry trust me, consulting is a different animal. It takes about 8-12months to get good and another 2-3 years to build a solid network. In industry you have your tasks to complete, in consulting you have to make the client look good, make yourself look good in your practice, look for other sales opportunities, manage a team and multiple work streams and make sure you take care of yourself. There are some engagements and clients that are less demanding of others and people joke all the time that all we do is build decks but when another consultant is knocking at your client door, you better have put in all the work to make sure they dont answer it.
I'm not demeaning your work and experience, consulting is that much more demanding
Based on my hire date, I will not be bonus eligible for 2019. That's why I plan on going strongly with the base.
I am sure you don’t need to be told that a verbal offer is not an offer. An offer is a salary. Place you will work and the job you will do.
Hey, covering the basics. Apparently YOU did not need to be told. Someone else might. It is not intended to be snarky, there are unfortunately people who do not know that a verbal offer can be forgotten overnight. I mention this because I have seen it happen
Lighten up Francis
So I want to approach this " you don't have any consulting experience" reasoning a bit. Would you tell me what's it that consultants do typically that sets them apart from someone coming from the industry experience? Don't we all have to work and deliver at the end of the day?
As for the sales side of the job: the expectations that I had been set is that I won't be having target sales until my first year is up at the firm.
Again, just for the perspective I'd like to know and understand if I can counter that reasoning when they use it against me. Thanks!
That’s what EY says all the time.. happened with me 4-5 years back when I was moving from the industry to the consultancy world! The funny part was that they were offering me less pay and an entry staff 1 level even though I was a senior with 3 years of experience! All with the reason that “ I don’t have prior consulting experience “ lol.. so glad that I picked KPMG instead..
What's your current pay now at Wells? Im looking at moving to industry in the bay area so may consider them.
Just DMed you.
Consulting experience aka being an overpaid employee for the bank. Staff augmentation at its consulting finest
