In this market indies are safer than hold cos. Can't say for sure without any names but that's my perception.
It’s just not news when the indies lay people off.
I’d leave to be honest. Indie means smaller which means more opportunity (hopefully). They’ll rely on you more, so you’ll definitely earn that 25k.
I’ve never had a good time at a holding company agency tbh. Been at two different ones. I think follow money when the opportunity is equal. Don’t let them bread crumb you.
Ask the indie if the yare open to the idea of you starting after the new year. Say you really want to join but there a project you want to see through. I’ve done it with now issue. Go to the shoot and give notice shortly thereafter.
You’re mistaken to think a bigger agency is safer. They’ll lay you off the moment they want to see their stock go up. I’ve also witnessed people being laid off in the middle of shoot.
Do what helps you most.
If the indie feels solid, go there for sure. Holding company agencies are falling apart, and it’s going to get a lot worse
Always and always follow the money.
Go to the Indie and follow the money!
Take the money
Take the money!
I made a similar leap at one point in time and I have to say I regretted leaving the agency I loved. If you can hang in there, I think you will do better in the long run. There is nothing like a good community to work with. If you’ve got traction there, you know people and you like them. This goes such a long way. Also, agencies like that do advance people. It just takes time. Wishing you the best.
If you take a look at Adweeks shortlist of best agencies 2025 it is packed with independents. Trust your gut.
