As an almost 41 year old who is *just now* going back to school to finish my bachelors and who couldn't keep a job because they didn't align with my values, I had personality conflicts, or because I just was a bit too chaotic/late, I can relate!
All I gotta really say is just keep trying. I know it's hard, but take advantage of not having much money to get on low-income health insurance. Get a diagnosis if you don't have one already and that can open a lot of doors for you. Check out DVR (Disability Vocational Rehab) if you haven't already. They're very helpful!
I recognize life is not what you want right now…but there is hope that things will turn around. Are you applying to other jobs? Positive attracts positive so keep your head up, believe in yourself more than anything else. We all go through ups and downs…no matter the age. I believe in you!
I hope this doesn’t sound offensive because I genuinely am speaking from experience and concern, but have you considered getting tested for ADHD? I wasn’t diagnosed until I was 29 but it pretty much saved my life and solved 99% of my problems (similar to what you’ve experienced).
Yes, I was also diagnosed with ADHD later in life about a year ago. That’s why I posted in the ADHD professionals bowl 😅
As someone who has had very similar setbacks I've realized I've tried to fit my square peg into a round hole. I'm working as a server full-time for now. It's a way to keep a roof over my head. However, I'm leaning more and more into my passions. Like writing, art, and gaming. Am I making any income yet? No. But I have a plan to do so. I'm just in the early stages. Ask yourself what do you really want to do? What do you enjoy? What excites you? What can you spend hours talking about without getting bored? And build off that. It's going to be hard but you're young. And I garuantee that if you start now then by the time you're my age (35) you'll be in a career you love and doing ok.
Go back to a technical school and learn a trade. You will do way better with that than a 4 year degree.
DVR will pay
I made more money as a server than I ever made in my life. The problem is society treated as an occupation that is for people who can’t get other jobs. In other countries, people will do it as a career.
