Graduated 2018, had amazing legal experience in various fields during law school but made the decision to put legal career on hold to start my family and help my husband through med school/residency. Last job was in 2021 as a law clerk quit to care for my terminally ill father. Now, 7 years later recently admitted but finding it hard to even get an interview anywhere I apply. Most jobs are looking for 2-5 years experience as an attorney which I do not have. Any advice would be appreciated.

I’d look into it there are any bar association or firm programs in your geographic area that help women return to the workforce. While the ones I’ve heard of are geared towards mothers, I’m not sure that they’re all exclusively for those folks.

Definitely network, network, network! Go to something you enjoy or people will be able to tell you hate it. The women lawyers groups have been immensely helpful to me over the years, and I would also see if there is an opportunity through the bar or the women's group to sign up for a mentor. I also recently hired a local writer specializing in resume writing to rewrite my resume, cover letter, and LinkedIn. It was such a help and gave me such a boost of confidence!! Good luck!

What would be a typical salary for a junior in house counsel role (3 yoe) at a publicly traded company in a secondary market (think Austin, Tampa, Charlotte)? I’m having a really hard time finding what a reasonable range would be. Most positions I’m applying to require desired salary in the application, and the truth is I’d accept anything north of 125k but don’t want to undersell myself and take a bigger cut than necessary coming from biglaw.

Hello Fam Law attys!

I am in my second year as a attorney, I was a FL paralegal before law school and would eventually like to end up there again. I am in a very small rural area, pretty much only solos, and no FL solos appear to be hiring/expanding at this time.

Do you think experience as a DA or PD would be valuable, with my eye toward a future in FL? Both for the skills gained, and/or as a resume piece?

TY!
